A ticketing platform for one of Greece’s most historic landmarks

A custom ticketing platform, online booking, on site ticket counters, souvenir ticket printing, mobile entry validation, and automatic fiscal transmission to the Greek tax authority, designed and developed entirely by Neurons Tech.

At a glance
The Panathenaic Stadium — the only stadium in the world built entirely from marble — welcomes thousands of visitors every day. Ticket issuance and entry validation at this scale, combined with strict fiscal compliance requirements, demanded a system specifically designed around the operational needs of the venue.
Instead of adopting an off the shelf ticketing platform, the organization selected a fully custom solution designed and developed entirely by Neurons Tech.

The platform covers the complete operational cycle: online booking through the website, ticket issuance from two on site ticket counters, souvenir ticket printing, entry validation through a mobile application, payment terminal integration, and automatic transmission of every fiscal document to the Greek tax authority through NT Connect.

The context

Why a custom platform instead of an off the shelf solution

There are many ticketing platforms available on the market. For a venue like the Panathenaic Stadium, however, no existing solution could simultaneously satisfy all operational and regulatory requirements.

Fiscal compliance in the Greek market

Every ticket issued is also a fiscal document that must be transmitted to the Greek tax authority through myDATA. International ticketing platforms do not support Greek fiscal compliance workflows, while local off the shelf solutions did not provide the level of operational control required by the organization.

Operational control and data ownership

An institutional organization requires full ownership and operational control of its data, rather than dependency on a closed third party platform.

The system needed to operate as an owned operational asset, not as a rented external service.

Unified online and on site ticket issuance

Online reservations and on site ticket issuance needed to operate on the same system and the same operational database — not as disconnected sales channels managed independently.

When operational requirements become specific enough, an off the shelf platform forces the organization to adapt to the limitations of the software.

A custom platform adapts to the operational needs of the organization itself.

Why not Odoo in this case

Neurons Tech is an Official Odoo Partner, but we do not approach every operational problem as an Odoo project.

For a high volume, real time ticketing environment with specialized hardware requirements and a highly customized visitor experience, the correct architectural decision was a purpose built platform.

That is part of our architecture first approach:

first the operational architecture, then the technology selection  even when the selected technology is not our primary platform offering.

Platform architecture.

What was designed and developed

Online booking through the website

Visitors complete their reservation directly through the website. Tickets are issued from the same platform that also serves the on site ticket counters. One system, one operational database.

Two on site ticket counters

Two active ticketing stations operate with integrated POS terminals and connected payment terminals for card transactions, providing fast and reliable ticket issuance during daily visitor traffic.

Souvenir ticket printing

Custom ticket printing was designed for both thermal and Zebra printers, allowing visitors to keep a physical souvenir from their visit to the stadium.

Mobile entry validation (PWA)

At the entrance, ticket validation is performed through a mobile application, enabling fast access control without specialized hardware installations.

Automatic transmission to the Greek tax authority through NT Connect

Every fiscal document is transmitted automatically to the Greek tax authority through NT Connect, the integration middleware developed by Neurons Tech. Fiscal compliance operates as a native part of the workflow rather than as a separate operational process.

NT Connect as proof of architectural flexibility

NT Connect deserves special mention here.

It is the proprietary integration middleware developed by Neurons Tech, the same integration layer we use to connect Odoo implementations with the Greek tax authority and with external hardware systems such as TAGORA electronic shelf labels.

The fact that the same middleware powers both Odoo environments and a completely custom Django based ticketing platform demonstrates its core advantage: it is platform agnostic.

NT Connect is not a feature attached to a specific ERP.

It is an independent integration infrastructure designed to provide reliable and secure communication with the Greek tax authority and other external providers regardless of the platform running the operational system.

What this means operationally

Scale proven in production

More than 1,000 tickets per day and over 50,000 tickets during peak months, operating continuously in production for more than 1.5 years.

One system across all channels

Online booking, on site ticket issuance, and entry validation all operate on the same operational foundation. No disconnect between web and physical ticketing operations.

Fiscal compliance without operational friction

Every ticket is transmitted automatically to the Greek tax authority through NT Connect as part of the native workflow.

Visitor experience as part of the platform design

The souvenir ticket transforms a simple transaction into part of the overall visitor experience of the monument itself.

Full ownership and operational control

The organization maintains complete ownership of both the platform and its operational data.

Why this matters

This project demonstrates something important that is often misunderstood about Neurons Tech:

we are not simply an “Odoo shop.”

We are systems engineers who select the right architecture and the right technology for each operational problem. Odoo where it fits. Custom development where it is required.

In both cases, the same architectural principles and the same infrastructure layers, such as NT Connect, ensure that the result remains reliable, owned by the organization, and designed around real operational requirements rather than around the limitations of a predefined product.
